Sarah Koerkenmeier Graduates from Blackburn College

Sarah Koerkenmeier of Aviston, IL earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Blackburn College on May 18, 2013 with a Psychology Major. Blackburn College's Class of 2013 contained 85 graduates. The first commencement was held in June of 1870 for a class of one woman and six men.

The Special Guest for the event was Dr. William Raymond Jewell. He received a B.A. in Chemistry at Blackburn College in 1957, a B.S. in Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1959, and a M.D. at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1961. He is a member of numerous medical societies including the Alpha Omega Honor Society, the American Cancer Society, American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Academic Surgery.

Miriam R. Pride, who is retiring her position as the President of the College after a 22 year tenure, gave the Commencement Address "Reflections".

Founded in 1837, Blackburn College is a four-year, Presbyterian-related, co-educational liberal arts college located in Carlinville, Illinois. One of the seven work colleges in the U.S., Blackburn is the only one with a student managed Work Program. Blackburn was ranked by US News as the 2012 #2 Best Value College in the Midwest; and placed #65 in The Washington Monthly's ranking of Baccalaureate Colleges. The school remains the most affordable, residential private liberal arts college in the state.
