Brandon Ellis Performed in Blackburn College's 2012 Fall Production

2012 Dec 3

On November 1-4, Blackburn College's Performing Arts performed "The Importance of Being Earnest", by Oscar Wilde. Among that cast was Brandon Ellis, a Freshman, from Vandalia, IL, played the role of Algernon Moncrief.

Dr. Kate Roark, the Director of the play and a Performing Arts professor at Blackburn, stated, "I chose 'The Importance of Being Earnest' for my directing debut this year because it is one of the most clever and funny plays ever written. Though the play is over 100 years old, it still addresses a very contemporary disconnect between people's surface appearances and their core values. Underlying the hilarious comedy of this play are serious questions about how much we should value labels and names versus what people actually say and do. What could be more relevant in an election year?"

Founded in 1837, Blackburn College is a four-year, Presbyterian-related, co-educational liberal arts college located in Carlinville, Illinois. One of the seven work colleges in the U.S., Blackburn is the only one with a student managed Work Program. Blackburn was ranked by US News as the 2012 #2 Best Value College in the Midwest; and placed #65 in The Washington Monthly's ranking of Baccalaureate Colleges. The school remains the most affordable, residential private liberal arts college in the state.
